KUALA LUMPUR – 1,586 cases of open burning have been reported between 1 January and 10 March 2021.
According to the Open Burning Report. 29 cases were large scale open burning involving permanent forest reserve, bushes, peat soil forest and garbage disposal sites.
The report shared by the Minister of Environment and Water, Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man stated that the Department of Environment (DoE) has issued 52 orders on the field, 37 compounds and 62 order notices.
Besides that, the DoE has also issued 168 arrest letter, including opening 26 investigation papers.
Tuan Ibrahim also verified that the increment of open burning was the factor to the unhealthy air quality reported at several areas in the country. –MalaysiaGazette
