Tengku Adnan begins appeal to strike off corruption conviction

PUTRAJAYA – Former Minister of Federal Territories, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor will begin his appeal on the conviction and sentence for accepting RM2 million in bribery today.

Tengku Adnan who is also the Member of Parliament of Putrajaya was clad in batik shirt when he arrived at the court at 8.40 am along with several individuals.

He also waved and smiled at the media practitioners who were already waiting for him at the court since 8.00 am and chatted with several individuals while waiting for the proceeding to start.

The court fixed 22, 23 and 26 April to hear his appeal after he filed a notice for the appeal on 21 December, right after he was convicted and sentenced.

The High Court sentenced him for 12 months in prison and RM2 million fine after finding him guilty on the charges.

The judge also allowed approve the application of the Putrajaya MP to delay his sentence until the verdict of his appeal is completed.

Tengku Adnan, who is also fondly known as Ku Nan was charged for using his position as a civil servant or the Federal Territory Minister to accept RM2 million from a businessman.

The Director of Aset Kayamas Sdn Bhd (AKSB), Tan Sri Chai Kin Kong, deposited a cheque into the bank account of Tadmansori Holdings Sdn Bhd, where Ku Nan had stakes in it despite the AKSB has official business relationship with his ministry.

He was accused of committing the offence at CIMB Bank Berhad, Pusat Bandar Damansara Brance on 14 June 2016 and the charges were framed under Section 165 of the Penal Code that carries a maximum punishment of two years in prison, or fine, or both upon conviction. –MalaysiaGazette
