KUALA LUMPUR – Although it is not under his jurisdiction to set or reduce the amount of compound on those who violate the standard operating procedures (SOP), however, the RM50,000 fine on a burger seller in Kota Bharu is indeed too high.
According to Senior Minister (Security Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the enforcement is under the jurisdiction of the police, meanwhile, the appeal is under the Ministry of Health (MOH).
“I saw that the Minister of Law explained about the RM50,000 fine and that was too much. Moreover, the amount according to the ordinance was meant for companies.
“The MOH is acting on this now, so, let’s wait for their official announcement. To me, such thing should not happen. The punishment is too harsh.
“However, the offender can still appeal to the MOH,” he said today.
Earlier, the media reported that a burger seller, Wan Mohd Faisal Wan Kadir, 38, was issued a RM50,000 compound by the police for operating overtime.
He was running the burger stall business outside his house in Kampung Rambutan Rendang, Kelantan and a group of police came to him when he was cooking for his client at 11.10 pm last Sunday.
The police then issued the RM50,000 compound on him for operating overtime during the Movement Control Order (MCO). –MalaysiaGazette
The high compound is understandable to commensurate with the high cost of treating pandemic patients. Why not?
