KUALA LUMPUR – The 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) trial involving Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak that was supposed to resume today is postponed again due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

High Court Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah said that one of the lawyer representing Najib is undergoing quarantine after becoming a close contact of a Covid-19 patient.

Meanwhile, the SRC International Sdn Bhd appeal proceeding on the misappropriation of RM42 million scheduled on this Thursday is also postponed and will resume on 17 May.

The 1MDB trial was supposed to resume with 10th prosecution witness, former Chief Executive Officer of 1MDB, Mohd Hakem Abd Rahman continuing to testify.

On 11 March, the 1MDB trial was postponed to pave way for Najib’s defence team to complete their appeal on SRC International’s proceeding at the Court of Appeal in Putrajaya before a panel of three judges led by Datuk Abdul Karim Abdul Jalil.

Najib, who is also the Member of Parliament of Pekan is facing four charges of abusing his position in soliciting gratification amounting to RM2.3 billion from 1MDB fund and 21 counts of money-laundering charges involving the same amount of fund.

At the same time, Najib has been convicted on seven counts of money-laundering, criminal breach of trust and power abuse involving RM42 million of SRC International funds.

High Court Judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali sentences Najib to 12 years in prison and RM210 in fine after finding him guilty on all charges. Nevertheless, he is allowed to delay his sentence in wait for his appeal. –MalaysiaGazette
