GOMBAK – The police had issued 22 compounds during the roadblock at Gombak Toll Plaza yesterday on motorists who tried to enter the capital city through the Karak Highway yesterday.

Gombak District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Arifai Tarawe said, the RM5,000 compound were issued to motorists who just came back from their Hari Raya holidays to the East Coast on the offence of interstate travel.

“All 22 compounds issued yesterday were over two offences of not having and failing to produce interstate travel documents.

“Another offence detected was the abuse of work permit by the employer to balik kampung. RM5,000 compound was issued for that offence,” he said when contacted by MalaysiaGazette today.

According to Arifai, he monitored the vehicle inspection operation since 5.00 pm until 1.00 am yesterday at the Gombak Toll roadblock that caused a three-kilometre traffic congestion to the capital city.

“Thorough inspection was conducted on each vehicles, regardless if they were motorcycles or heavy vehicles such as express busses.

“Most of them had interstate travel documents and most of them involved the returning of students from universities and education.

“We issued the RM5,000 compound each to those without interstate travel documents.

“The traffic congestion was merely three-kilometres and it was not as serious as the festive seasons in the past years. The congestion was usually up to 20 or 30 kilometres long although there was no roadblock before the Gombak Toll,” he said. –MalaysiaGazette
