KUALA LUMPUR – The government has decided to include AstraZeneca in the mainstream Covid-19 vaccine under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) after receiving an overwhelming response from the people.

Therefore, the reservation for AstraZeneca vaccine need not be made through a separate website. On the contrary, it can be made through the MySejahtera mobile application.

The Coordinating Minister of PICK, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar said, the decision was made after seeing that the community no longer doubt the efficacy of the vaccine.

“We decided on this mechanism of reservation after seeing the refusal among the community in receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine due to the news implicating the vaccine with blood clots. Therefore, the voluntary method was implemented based on informed decision of each individual who decided to have the vaccine.

“Nevertheless, after seeing the overwhelming response, we see that the rejection towards the AstraZeneca vaccine has been eliminated and people no longer doubt this vaccine. Now, the AstraZeneca vaccine is well-received by the people thus, for the coming months, we will no longer do the opt-in for AZ. On the contrary, we have decided to no return the AZ vaccine into the PICK mainstream vaccine,” he said during a virtual news conference today.

According to Khairy, the MySejahtera application will be update to enable the selection of vaccine during registration.

“I am looking at a convenience that perhaps we may offer to the people in the future where they can choose their vaccine through MySejahtera and we will upgrade that soon,” he said.

Earlier, Khairy shared that 956,609 successful reservations have been made through the second round of offer on 26 May 2021. –MalaysiaGazette
