KUALA LUMPUR – The special National Security Council (MKN) meeting yesterday has allowed lawyers and legal firms who need to represent their clients to face new charges, remand arrests and various criminal application to go to the court.
The approval was given as the physical presence at the court for those cases are needed, said the Minister at Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law), Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
Earlier, the legal service activities were not allowed throughout the First Phase of the Total Lockdown from 1 – 14 June 2021 as the sector was not listed under the essential category.
According to him, the lawyers representing their clients for those cases may obtain the approval to go to court from their nearest police station.
The lawyers need to make an application, referring to the SOP of Legal Services throughout the Movement Control Order at the communication platform of MKN.
Besides that, the government has also agreed for the legal firms involved in corporate legal services and conveyancing for essential services to make an application to operate according to the essential service companies / factories / businesses represented by them.
Thus, the legal firms representing such companies may make an application to operate from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) through the Covid-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS) 3.0.
He also requested everyone to adhere to the instructions issued by the Government throughout the first phase of the FMCO to flatten the Covid-19 infection curve. –MalaysiaGazette
