KUALA LUMPUR – The refugees in Malaysia will not be neglected in the national Covid-19 immunisation programme as they will be receiving the CanSino vaccine.
The Coordinating Minister of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK), Khairy Jamaluddin said, the government would be receiving the vaccine supply next month.
He, who is the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation said, the administration of the vaccine is easier as it is a single-dose vaccine.
“The refugees would be given the CanSino vaccine as it is easier to control their movements.
“CanSino only requires one dose injection and this is suitable for the refugees,” he said after visiting the vaccination centre (PPV) at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium today.
Khairy also gave his guarantee that the refugees without any travel document would also be given the vaccine shot.
He said, vaccination is the main priority of the government and undocumented refugees has become a secondary concern.
Yesterday, the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) requested the government to ensure Covid-19 vaccination for the refugees.
In a statement, SUHAKAM also requested the government to provide a safe space for the refugees to get their Covid-19 vaccine.
“In the effort to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic, SUHAKAM hopes that the government can uphold the principles of no one would be left behind, by ensuring that the refugees are also included in the national immunisation programme,” it said.
SUHAKAM also urged the government to use a comprehensive, inclusive, non-discriminatory and long-term refugees protection policy in the country. –MalaysiaGazette
