SEPANG – 1.7 million senior citizens nationwide have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine through the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK).

The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun said, from that amount, more than 500,000 of them have completed two doses of vaccine during the second phase of PICK since last April.

“I was told at as of 20 June, 1,742,141 senior citizens have been vaccinated from the 2.4 million who registered for the vaccine.

“More than 50 percent of the senior citizens have got at least one dose of vaccine while more than 500,000 have completed two doses of vaccine,” she said during a news conference today.

Meanwhile, approximately 1 million senior citizens in the country has yet to register for the vaccine under PICK.

Therefore, her ministry will actively mobilise volunteers under her agencies to ensure that the remaining of the senior citizens are registered for the Covid-19 vaccine.

“The process is ongoing, however, some senior citizens have yet to register. 10 percent from the population of the country or 3.2 million individuals are senior citizens. Thus, about one million has yet to register.

“The efforts will continue from the aspect of advocacy and house-to-house registration through the volunteers we mobilise,” she added.

Earlier in June, Rina said that approximately one million senior citizens have got their first shot of vaccine while 229,462 have completed their second dose of Covid-19 vaccine. –MalaysiaGazette
