TANJONG KARANG – Selangor is the only state with the vaccine utilisation rate below 90 percent as of 27 June 2021. It is also the lowest rate in the country.

Coordinating Minister of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, Khairy Jalamuddin Abu Bakar said, this proves that the Selangor State Government is rather low in executing the vaccination process in the state.

“At of 27 June 2021, the highest vaccine utilisation rate is in Melaka (94 percent), Terengganu (92%), Negeri Sembilan (92%). In fact, all states reach 82 percent, with the exception of Selangor.

“I have worked for Selangor to increase its capacity. This is the capacity of vaccine users, that is why we opened mega PPV.

“We can see that the efforts in Selangor is rather slow despite having the vaccine. There are more unused vaccines,” he said during a news conference at the Tanjung Karang Vaccine Centre (PPV) today.

Earlier, Khairy visited and officiated the new PPV at Tanjung Karang along with the Member of Parliament of Tanjung Karang, Tan Sri Noh Omar.

Meanwhile, he said that the opening of more PPV in its mega or small scale form is an effort in increasing the capacity of vaccination.

“Our July target for each state is the utilisation rate of 90 percent. That means, when 100 doses of vaccine reach them, 90 doses must be used as soon as possible.

“Do not keep them in the refrigerator because the vaccines will reach every week.

“That is why the Federal CITP has decided to open more PPV.

“Opening more PPV not merely in mega scale but also like the PPV in Tanjung Karang. This is to increase the capacity,” he said.

Elaborating about the Tanjung Karang PPV, Khairy said that the PPV is opened based on the request of its MP who wanted to reduce the journey of the people in Tanjong Karang to get their vaccines.

“This PPV is created at the request of the Tanjung Karang MP, Tan Sri Noh Omar.

“Before this, the residents of Tanjung Karang had to go to Kuala Selangor or to the Puncak Alam UiTM for their vaccination.

“Due to the concerns of the MP, we have shortened the journey for them to travel to the PPV.

“We have opened another PPV at Tanjung Karang that can manage the daily maximum capacity of 1,000 individuals,” he said.

He said, although it is a public PPV, it is managed by private practitioner, Poliklinik Medi Ihsan.

“It is under the management of private practitioner for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

“We will see from time to time for to open PPV that are nearer to the population so that we do not burden the people to travel too far for their vaccination,” he added. –MalaysiaGazette
