KUALA LUMPUR – Former Federal Court Judge Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram has the power to prosecute in the corruption trial involving Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

Sri Ram revealed his appointment letter as the Deputy Prosecutor in the trial of hybrid solar project for rural schools in Sarawak before High Court Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan.

Earlier, Rosmah’s defence team had raised a request to object his appointment to handle the case.

Sri Ram told the court that his new appointment letter dated 21 May was signed by Attorney-General, Tan Sri Idrus Harun.

According to him, the letter which came with effect on 30 August 2018 gives him the power to prosecute in the solar corruption trial involving Rosmah.

Sri Ram is the main prosecutor in the trial against Rosmah, who was ordered to enter her defence by the High Court on 18 February.

The defence had earlier alleged that Sri Ram’s appointment as the Deputy Public Prosecutor in handling the corruption case of solar hybrid project involving rural schools in Sarawak as invalid and void.

Rosmah filed the request after the Court of Appeal allowed her appeal on 8 April, to obtain Sri Ram’s appointment letter after the prosecution team agreed to submit a copy of the letter to the defence team.

On 19 August last year, the High Court rejected Rosmah’s request to get Sri Ram’s appointment letter.

The court had also ordered Rosmah to enter defence on all three counts of charges and fixed nine days on 9,10,15,16,17,22, 23 June and 12 and 15 July for the hearing of her testimony and other defence witnesses. –MalaysiaGazette
