25 Bangladeshis fined RM125,000 for gathering during Aidiladha

GEORGE TOWN – The Sessions court have sentenced 25 Bangladeshi men to RM125,000 fine after they were found guilty in violating the standard operating procedures (SOP) by gathering during Hari Raya Aidiladha.

Each of the Bangladeshi was fined RM5,000 after they pleaded guilty to the charges read to them before Judge Norsalha Datuk Hamzah.

According to the charge, all of them aged between 23 and 41 had gathered to socialise in at a house in Taman Desa Mutiara, Batu Maung at 9.00 pm last Tuesday.

The charges were framed under Regulation 10(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures and Infection Areas) P.U (A) 293/2021 Act which carries a fine of not more than RM5,000 or imprisonment of not more than six months or both upon conviction.

The judge sentenced the RM5,000 fine on each accused in default, two months in prison.

The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Rais Imran Hamid.

Meanwhile, 21 accused were represented by the lawyer appointed by their employer, Muhammad Arif Shaharuddin. –MalaysiaGazette
