KUALA LUMPUR – The Speaker of Dewan Rakyat, Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun advised all party leaders to rotate the attendance of their Members of Parliament (MPs) in the Parliament to avoid the risk of Covid-19 infection.

He said, an hourly rotation can be made although all MPs are allowed to be in the hall throughout the Special Dewan Rakyat Sitting that started today.

“We do not limit the attendance in the hall and it will be held until 5.30 pm. Thus, I’d like to request for the party chiefs to make an hourly rotation of their MPs in the hall,” he said while he started the Dewan Rakyat session this morning.

Azhar said, the Parliament is considering new rules on limiting the attendance and duration of the sitting, while verifying that two MPs have been tested positive for Covid-19 and they are not allowed to attend the special sitting today.

He added, 12 Parliament staff have also been tested positive, meanwhile, 58 have been ordered to quarantine after becoming close contacts.

“Two Members of Parliament are positive, six Members of Parliament (close contact) have to go under quarantine. That is the Covid-19 situation in the Parliament as of our screening last Friday.

“At the moment, I am still waiting for the decision (from the Ministry of Health) to minimise the risk of infections at the Parliament,” he added. –MalaysiaGazette
