KUALA LUMPUR – The Members of Parliament (MPs) from UMNO motioned for the Parliament to debate and revoke the Proclamation of Emergency and its Ordinances.

The President of UMNO, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said, they will also show their support through votes to revoke the Proclamation of Emergency and its Ordinances.

According to him, if the motion fails and the emergency is extended after 1 August, then all MPs, Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Chairmen of GLCs from UMNO will resign according to the party’s decision on 25 April.

He said, UMNO made the decision after the people UMNO is representing has rejected the Proclamation of Emergency and its Ordinances which hurt the people.

According to him, they include, the economy slowdown and negligence of the government in ensuring the welfare of the people, including excessive and double standard compounds.

“The implementation of Emergency has clearly failed in controlling and overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic. On the contrary, it is a political trick and tool to stop the parliamentary democracy system,” he said in a statement last night.

Ahmad Zahid says, UMNO respects the decree of Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Malay Rulers who stated that there is no need for the Emergency to be extended and the Emergency Ordinances should be debated in the Parliament as provided under Article 150(3) of the Federal Constitution.

“Fulfilling and remaining loyal to the party’s stand on 25 April 2021, if the Emergency (Proclamation and Ordinance) is extended after 1 August 2021, thus, the Members of Parliament will withdraw our support and the Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Chairmen of GLCs from UMNO will resign,” he said. –MalaysiaGazette
