KUALA LUMPUR – The special Parliament sitting which entered its fourth day was adjourned for 15 minutes after the government received the latest development on the revocation of seven Emergency Ordinance from Istana Negara.
According to the Deputy Speaker of Dewan Rakyat, Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon, the sitting was temporary halted to pave way for him to discuss about the two-page statement from Istana Negara today.
“I refer to 12(2), to adjourn this sitting for 15 minutes to enable a discussion,” said Rashid before leaving the special Dewan Rakyat sitting today when Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz was briefing the Members of Parliament (MPs) on the National Recovery Plan (PPN).
The chaos started after Opposition Chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim rose from his seat questioning Rashid about the statement by Yang di-Pertuan Agong today.
“Stop dodging around. This statement was issued by the Istana Negara. You can check the Facebook. This is not a common media statement. Do not play with the Royal decree,” he said.
The opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) started to question the whereabouts of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the Minister at Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law), Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan who were not in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Several MPs from the UMNO also rose up and requested Rashid to adjourn the special Parliament sitting. Among them include, the MP of Kinabatangan Datuk Seri Bung Mokhtar Radin and Tanjong Karang MP Tan Sri Noh Omar.
“Let’s adjourn the Dewan Rakyat sitting because this is a serious issue involving the Federal Constitution,” said Bung Mokhtar.
“Speaker, postpone the sitting until 2.30pm. It can be postponed,” Noh Omar said.
Meanwhile, the Pulai MP Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub questioned Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob who only kept quiet on the disappointing statement from Istana Negara.
“Bera, say something, as the Deputy Prime Minister,” Salahuddin said.
After fifteen minutes break, Rashid entered the Dewan Rakyat again and adjourned the sitting. The meeting will reconvene at 2.30 pm today.
Istana Negara issued a statement that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA), Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Raja is very disappointed over the revocation of the Emergency Ordinance as he has yet to grant his consent on the matter.
The Comptroller of the Royal Household, Datuk Indera Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said that His Majesty also expressed the same feeling that his order and consent for the revocation of all Emergency Ordinances to be presented and debated at the Parliament was also not carried out. He has given his consent and order to the Minister at Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law), Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Harun during a virtual audience with the King on 24 July.
His Majesty also labelled Takiyuddin’s statement at the Parliament on 26 July as contradicting and confusing. –MalaysiaGazette
