KUALA LUMPUR – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and the several ministers who met Datuk Seri Najib Razak last night had allegedly requested for the current polemic to cease.
According to a source, Ismail Sabri delivered the request during the three-hour discussion which started at 8.00 pm last night.
Several Cabinet ministers also joined Ismail Sabri in that meeting with Najib at the latter’s house, voiced their opinion in maintaining their support for the Perikatan Nasional Government until the end of the year.
They also think that the political crisis which was triggered following the UMNO Supreme Council’s decision in withdrawing support towards the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Government and Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should be halted until the efforts to curb Covid-19 is completed.
Several UMNO ministers are holding important portfolios in the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) and that responsibility should be given priority over politics.
At the moment, only one UMNO Minister, Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah has resigned as the Minister of Energy and Nature Resources after the Supreme Council of the party decides to withdraw its support for PN and Muhyiddin.
The decision was made after the PN and Istana Negara crisis following the revocation of the Proclamation of Emergency and the Emergency Ordinances by Muhyiddin’s Cabinet on 21 July.
Besides Ismail and Shamsul Anuar, UMNO MPs in Muhyiddin’s Cabinet include Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba, Minister of Science Technology and Innovation cum Coordinating Minister of PICK Khairy Jamaluddin; Minister of National Unity Datuk Halimah Sadique; Senior Minister of Foreign Affairs Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein; Minister of Federal Territories Tan Sri Annuar Musa; and the Minister of Higher Education Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad. – MalaysiaGazette
