KUANTAN – To mask their action from the police, four local citizens were willing to rent a private ambulance at RM1,300 just to travel interstate.

Pahang Deputy Police Chief, DCP Datuk Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said that the two men and two women’s attempt ended in disappointment after their action was detected by the police during a roadblock at Jalan Raya Kampung Tanjung Belenggu, Temerloh at 6.15 pm yesterday.

According to him, a team of police from the Temerloh IPD in Op Covid bumped into a suspicious van at Taman Bahagia with several individuals behind the van.

“The police intercepted the ambulance with its emergency siren and light on at the Kampung Tanjung Belengu (Jalan Triang) roadblock.

“Based on inspection, there were six passengers in the ambulance. Two of the individuals were with twin babies and two children aged four and five years-old seated at the back of the ambulance.

Further inspection found that they have no treatment documents and they failed to provide any valid travel document.

“Early investigation found that they used the ambulance driver to carry the passengers along with their children and mother back to their hometown in Felda Sungai Kelamah, Gemas Negeri Sembilan with the payment of RM1,300,” he told MalaysiaGazette

Meanwhile, the owner of the ambulance was only informed that the ambulance was used to send patients to Gemas, Negeri Sembilan.

Following that, an arrest was made on all of them for failing to provide valid travel documents. They were brought to the Temerloh IPD for further action.

“The two male suspects will be remanded after Covid-19 screening, meanwhile, the two women were given a bail. The employer to the ambulance driver will give his statement the following day.

“The case is investigated under Section 270KK and Section 22(b) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

According to Moh Yusri, the investigation papers will be referred to Deputy Public Prosecutor for prosecution. –MalaysiaGazette
