KUALA LUMPUR – The Kuala Lumpur High Court maintained Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s Yayasan Akalbudi trial on 6 September without any new amendment of date.

Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah delivered the decision after the doctor treating Ahmad Zahid, Dr Mohd Shahir Anuar verified that the President of UMNO can attend his trial.

Earlier, the Pain Intensivist Specialist from the Avisena Specialist Hospital in Shah Alam said that generally, recovery period for spine injury would take between two to four weeks.

However, in Ahmad Zahid’s case, Dr Mohd Shahrir projected that his recovery may take about four to six weeks.

According to him, the patient cannot sit in static for too long. He can only it for about 30 to 45 minutes and he would then need to get up to stretch before sitting again.

Yesterday, the High Court issued a subpoena against the doctor to explain about the health condition of Ahmad Zahid after the accused did not attend his corruption case proceeding.

Collin ordered Dr Mohd Shahir to explain about the medical procedures he would be performing on Ahmad Zahid and the duration required for the accused to recover.

Yesterday, Ahmad Zahid’s defence counsel Hisyam Teh Poh Teik told the court that his client could not attend his trial as he had to go for a pain intervention procedure in the hospital.

He said, Ahmad Zahid had a fall and he would be in pain if he sits for too long.

The President of UMNO cum former Deputy Prime Minister is facing 47 charges over Yayasan Akalbudi’s case involving 12 counts criminal breach of trust (CBT), eight counts of corruption and 27 counts of money-laundering charges involving millions of ringgit of funds.

Meanwhile, his defence counsel, Hamidi Mohd Noh said that the defence had requested the court to provide suitable chair for spine injury patient on the date of trial.

“The court said that they will manage that and do their best to look into what can be done, perhaps, in getting another chair.

“The chair in the accused dock is made from wood. It is not suitable for a spine injury patient,” he added. –MalaysiaGazette
