KUALA LUMPUR – The Member of Parliament (MP) of Gua Musang, Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh Tengku Hamzah has resigned as the Chairman of UMNO Advisory Board with effect of 20 September 2021.
He has submitted his resignation letter to the President of UMNO, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Monday (20 September).
His resignation was verified by a close source to Tengku Razaleigh today.
“With this letter, I would like to resign from the position as the Chairman of UMNO Advisory Board, an unconstitutional position, with effect from the date of this letter.
“I would like to take this opportunity to express my thanks for allowing me to play a small role in the journey of our party,” he said in his letter to Ahmad Zahid, which went viral in the social media today.
The resignation is believed to transpire after Tengku Razaleigh expressed his disappointment on the formation of Federal Government that is dominated by leaders from the previous Perikatan Nasional (PN) government that has failed in handling the national crisis.
“Almost all positions (ministers) are filled by those from the failed government,” he said.
According to Tengku Razaleigh, the selection of Cabinet Ministers from the pool of PN leaders shows as if UMNO gives its blessings to their failure while they were administering the country earlier.
“Of course, the leaders who are chosen and the members of government that replace the failed government have received the blessings of UMNO leaders, although most of the people and grassroots expressed their disappointment,” he said.
He also sees that the action is against the decision of UMNO General Assembly 2020, that unanimously decided to severe ties with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).
“It takes time to implement the motion, however, once it was implemented, it gave an immediate effect where the leader could not get the support.
“As demanded by the Federal Constitution, the government led by him had to resign without waiting for the vote against him at the Dewan Rakyat,” he said.
He also questioned how UMNO’s action of reappointing PN leaders in the Federal Government could give an advantage to UMNO in the coming 15th General Election (GE15).
“Can they help our party to reclaim our loss in GE15 and end the suspended Parliament?
“Can we depend on them to help our party win in the GE15?” he further questioned. -MalaysiaGazette
