KUALA LUMPUR – The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) refused to comment about the speculations on the resignation of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah last Friday.
“We cannot comment, you need to ask him yourself,” said a source to MalaysiaGazette.
The source also could not verify if Sabin’s resignation was related to the recent power abuse in IRB.
As at the time of writing, IRB has yet to issue any official statement on the issue.
On 9 September, former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak lodged a police report against the IRB alleging that the tax evasion suit against him was politically motivated.
The Member of Parliament of Pekan alleged that the IRB officers and certain politicians had abused their power by using fake documents to frame him.
“I have received a lot of information on the additional tax imposed on me. Some of them came to see me, apologised and told me that the RM1.7billion additional tax case have been investigated thrice since 2018.
“They confessed that after three careful investigations, they did not find any offence committed by me and no tax penalty should be imposed on me.
“However, certain senior officers from IRB had given an order to impose the tax penalty on me as they have been instructed by certain politicians,” said Najib in a Facebook post.
The government has filed a suit against Najib in June 2019 to claim more than RM1.69 billion with five percent interest rate each year beginning from the date of the judgement, along with other cost and relieves deemed fit by the court.
He allegedly did not declare approximately RM4 billion within that period, including the RM2.6 billion 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds alleged by the investigators from the United States. -MalaysiaGazette
