AYER KEROH – The Independent Group which represents a huge portion of candidates for the Melaka State Election sent their Statutory Declarations (SD) to the Election Commission (EC) today.

The SD showed the commitment from 15 out of 22 independent candidates that they would not join any political party in the country.

The Secretary of the Secretariat, Muhammad Omar said that many people have the perception that the independent candidates who take part in the Melaka State Election are not serious but truly, they wish to returning stability to the historical state.

“Thus, with this SD, it shows that the Independent Group and the independent candidates are serious in returning political stability in Melaka and move forward to develop the state.

“We have seen how the instability disrupted investors from coming to Melaka. It has also affected tourism. We need to stop this from happening. We should not allow politicians from political parties to live comfortably,” he said.

Elaborating further, Muhammad said that SD contained four items, namely, the independent candidates will not join any political parties, will not set up any political parties after the Melaka state election, will establish an anti-party hopping enactment and they must vacate their seat if they jump party.

“Thus, with this SD, the people have the rights to topple those YBs who break their promises,” he said.

Meanwhile, he alleged that the party structure has disrupted political stability as the people’s representatives had to take orders from their leaders.

According to him, if they fail to obey orders, actions may be taken against the people’s representatives.

“That’s why the administration power of the state is held by party leaders and not state leaders.

“This is the foundation that we need to solve now. If a political journey moves well, it would be easier for us to plan anything related to the state.

“So, we leave this to the people in Melaka to determine what they want in the coming polls,” he added. -MalaysiaGazette
