PUTRAJAYA – Home Minister, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin revealed that there are cartels in the Immigration Department involving officers of various rank.

According to him, those cartels use the Immigration officers to issue Temporary Employment Visitor’s Pass (PLKS) for certain syndicates.

For instance, he said, some cartels in Sabah Immigration claimed that they represent the department as agents for those passes.

“The cartels not only want job promotion, they also use certain officers to collaborate with the syndicates outside.

“For example, in Sabah recently, Deputy Minister II told me that there are advertisements on whoever that wishes to get the PLKS pass may meet certain people.

“This is very irresponsible. It cannot happen,” he said in a news conference during the Immigration Day 2021.

Therefore, Hamzah gave his guarantee that he would investigate the information and take stern actions as the movement has tarnished the image and integrity of the department.

He also further revealed that that some cartels work for syndicates as though they are agents of the Immigration Department and they even dare to advertise their activities in the social media.

“This is an abuse of service. This should not happen because we do not have any agent for Immigration services,” he added.

In his speech earlier, Hamzah said that certain cartels are free to come in and out of the Immigration Department and the national borders, including the airports. Such irresponsible actions had caused bad perceptions on the integrity of the department.

“If we Google immigration, the main issues that come out would be corruption cases, integrity and revolting cases. Why must this happen in our country or in the Immigration Department?

“Therefore, I urge all officers to avoid such matter from happening again and to understand our responsibility in protecting our country.

“If they (cartels) can enter easily, they can sell anything that we have easily. This means that we cannot protect the sovereignty of our country,” he emphasized. -MalaysiaGazette
