SHAH ALAM – The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) have been on standby since the government issued the order to rescue flood victims two months ago.

According to its Chief, General Tan Sri Affendi Buang, there was no issue that the armed forces recued and evacuated flood victims without the approval from the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) as alleged recently.

“We place everyone on standby mode for the flood operation. If the water level rises, we take the order from two months ago,” he said during a news conference at Taman Sri Muda Control Post today.

Affendi added, the MAF and its assets do not need to wait for the order from anyone else to save the lives of flood victims in dire situation.

“If the water level rises, who else should I wait for? I have my forces there. I move my assets. What should I wait for?” he answered the allegation that some MAF members did not wait for the direction from NADMA when evacuating the flood victims to the relief centres.

Elaborating further, Affendi wants everyone to work together in the future to reduce the impact of flood disaster.

“If everyone cooperates, I think, what we are facing now can be reduced.

“I don’t want to blame other people, but we all need to work together and in times of emergency, disaster, there is no right system. What we need is for everyone to work together and we can resolve it,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
