KUALA LUMPUR – A video footage of newly returned furious umrah pilgrims at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) went viral last night.
The one minute 44 seconds video that was uploaded to the social media also showed that the pilgrims were angry with Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar (KJ) who was monitoring the process of putting on digital tracking devices on the pilgrims.
According to Ansar Lashari who uploaded the video to Facebook, the umrah pilgrims were dissatisfied with the excessive time it took for the standard operating procedures (SOP) of making them wear the digital tracking devices to curb the spread of Covid-19.
“YB KJ came for a visit and the pilgrims were infuriated due to the excessively bad SOP at KLIA.
“This was the situation after returning home from umrah. The first attempt from the government and MOH to put on the tracker watch took too long. Five hours were spent on waiting,” he wrote on Facebook.
The video was uploaded for the first time on Tik Tok by user, Zulkufli Mohamed.
On 25 December, Khairy announced that individuals on mandatory quarantine will be given the digital tracking devices following the rise of Omicron Covid-19 variants in the country.
According to him, the implementation was necessary following 30 out of 49 Omicron cases detected in Malaysia on 23 and 24 December were imported from Saudi Arabia. -MalaysiaGazette
