JOHOR BAHRU – The Rohingya ethnic rape, extortion and kidnap suspect who managed to escape from the Tangkak Magistrate Court lockup was believed to have planned to flee to neighbouring country before he was arrested in Kedah yesterday.

The Johor Police Chief, Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said that the man was arrested by the police after 13 days of manhunt.

According to him, investigation found that Long Tiger knew befriended the effeminate man who was arrested along with him through Facebook in 2020.

Long Tiger, or his real name, Abdul Hamim Ab Hamid, 33, was assisted by two other individuals who helped him flee to Kedah.

“Based on the investigation, between 7.25 pm until 3.00 am, the police made two more arrests in Batu Pahat involving those who were believed to have abetted him,” he said in a news conference today.

According to Ayob, one of the 36 and 38 years-old suspects had previous drug records.

“We also confiscated a pair of handcuffs. The two suspects were believed to have helped the suspect by cutting the handcuffs besides helping him to purchase a SIM card and escape to the north.

“We believed that Long Tiger escaped to Kedah and was on his way to flee the country to either Thailand or Indonesia,” he said.

Yesterday, the police arrested Long Tiger, who was hiding at an effeminate man’s house at Jalan Kuala Ketil, Kedah.

During the arrest at 3.00 pm, the notorious Long Tiger tried to escape again by climbing up the roof. However, he fell and sustained minor injuries.

Two policemen have been suspended to assist in the investigation of his court lockup escape. They were suspected of being directly involved and negligence, causing the detainee to escape. -MalaysiaGazette
