JOHOR BAHRU – DAP will continue its efforts to cooperate with Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) to face the coming general election, and even the Johor state election.

The DAP National Political Education Bureau Director, Liew Chin Tong said, the collaboration with DAP is vital for the party in facing Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN).

He said, the cooperation is also important to reconvince the people that Pakatan Harapan (PH) is the best choice.

According to him, the party hoped that a partnership with emerging power could strengthen the party and open new political chapter.

MUDA offers an option to the on-the-fence Malay voters, especially when the party has a compound nature and provides opportunity for young Malay women to join politics.

“MUDA will shake the ground and create a new tectonic plate that force the existing parties to look into the on-the-fence Malay voters and change the political rules,” he told Sinchew Daily.

Chin Tong however also believes that MUDA will be facing its own challenges, including to ‘clone’ leaders such as Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman in more electoral areas.

He said, MUDA is also facing challenges to win more seats in ‘half town, half village’ areas like Muar in Johor.

“MUDA needs to manage their internal differences and build a good relationship to unite everyone,” he said.

According to him, it is important for MUDA to seek its own political position and to identify the formula that can win its coalition partner and itself via ongoing negotiations.

On the speculation of state election in Johor, Chin Tong projected that the election may take place after the Chinese New Year but before the month of Ramadan.

“If Johor fires its first shot, thus, the general election may also be around the corner,” he said.

According to him, the decision on early state election would depend on several factors such as the competitions within UMNO, the stand of the Menteri Besar of Johor and the Johor Palace. -MalaysiaGazette
