KUALA LUMPUR – Sending lewd pictures and words intending to insult the modesty of any person via WhatsApp were among the 11 charges imposed on independent Islamic preacher, Ebit Lew.
The Director of Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said that Ebit Irawan Ibrahim Lew was slapped with 11 charges under Section 509 of the Penal Code.
“All charges involved sending lewd pictures and words with the intention to insult the modesty of a person through the WhatsApp application.
“All charges allegedly happened at the Tenom district in Sabah between March 2021 until June 2021 on a woman,” he said in a statement today, confirming the charges on the celebrity preacher.
According to Abd Jalil, upon conviction, the accused could be imprisoned for up to five years, fined or both.
He also urged the cooperation from everyone not to make any speculations or provocations to ensure a smooth proceeding.
Meanwhile, Abd Jalil also confirmed that he was at the Tenom District Police Headquarters to monitor and supervise Ebit’s case. -MalaysiaGazette
