JOHOR BAHRU – The Election Commission (EC) has allowed the political talks for the Johor state election to be held until 12 midnight.

The approval is one of the amendments and addition to the revised Covid-19 prevention standard operating procedures (SOP) based on the recommendation from the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the National Security Council (MKN) and will come into effect immediately.

Earlier, under the same SOP, state election political talks could only be held until 10.00 pm.

The EC also approved political talks or campaigns to be held in and within the compound of party offices and official party operational room.

“The number of attendees must not exceed 100 people or 50 percent of the space capacity, whichever is lower, to ensure physical distancing of at least 1 metre between each other, with face mask. The number includes the organisers, speakers and participants,” the EC said in a statement today.

However, political speech or talks at open or public spaces are not allowed.

The EC hoped that everyone would obey the law, regulation and ethics of the election campaign and the Covid-19 prevention guideline to ensure the smoothness of the election and not threaten the public order and safety. -MalaysiaGazette
