KUALA LUMPUR – The office of former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad denied social media allegations that he is planning to set up Gerakan Pejuang Nasional (GPN).
Based on the question posed by MalaysiaGazette today, he said, that was a fake allegation.
“Fake,” said an officer from the Chairman of Parti Pejuang Tanahair (Pejuang)’s’ office.
The officer also attached a picture with the ‘fake’ label.
Earlier today, the Politik Malaysia Terkini’s Facebook account said that Mahathir is in the midst of setting up a new political coalition, GPN.
“Dr Mahathir will be setting up Gerakan Pejuang Nasional among the opposition parties,” the poster wrote.
That social media status also alleged that Pejuang, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Piagam Rakyat, Pas, Gerakan and Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) will be joining the coalition.
On 18 March, Mahathir said that there is a possibility for the party to combine with the other opposition parties to fight Barisan Nasional in the 15th General Election (GE15).
“There is a possibility. The proposal was voiced out by several opposition parties so that we do not split. The rift only causes us to lose. The proposal (for the oppositions to merge) needs to be studied in depth,” he said during a news conference at the Perdana Leadership Foundation at Putrajaya. -MalaysiaGazette
