KUALA LUMPUR – The Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) demanded the management of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) to explain about the viral issue of a lecturer who allegedly insulted the B40 students.

The Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad Twitted that she has contacted UiTM to get a report of the incident which went viral in the social media yesterday.

“I take note of the viral issue and video. I have contacted @uitmofficial to get their explanation,” she Twitted.

Meanwhile, most of Noraini’s followers on Twitter also gave her several suggestions.

“Datuk, the student is already in the fifth semester. What are the options of aids that the student can apply if he finds it difficult to buy a computer for his studies? If the student gets scholarship / loan, I suggest the government should include mandatory computer procurement,” Ajieps Razif suggested.

“Teaching at an institution set up to improve the economic status of the Malays and Bumiputeras needs patience and empathy. This is not about a Prof and a student,” said Ahmad Riduan.

“No ethics! She should not question about the family of the student, especially when the whole class could hear her. Prof, please retire,” said Sharkys.

“Besides an explanation, the Professor needs to apologise over her insults on the poor. The ministry should take immediate and more efficient actions to overcome laptop poverty among the students in Malaysia,” Farah commented.

The lecturer from UiTM became viral in the social media for issuing derogatory words against students from the B40 group.

The lecturer was criticising her student as he still did not have a computer despite being in his fifth semester.

In that viral video, the lecturer knew about the economic condition of the student’s family and his mother had passed away, meanwhile, his father was unemployed.

The lecturer also urged the student to get his elder sister to sell her gold bracelet to buy him a computer.

In their conversation during a virtual class, she mentioned that she could not sit with the B40 group because they tend to prioritise on other matters and not their studies. -MalaysiaGazette
