KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has given his guarantee that the government will table the Federal Constitution (Amendments) (Anti-Party Hopping) 2022 Bill next Monday (11 April).
Ismail Sabri gave his assurance on the matter during a meeting with the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Presidency Council today.
“The Prime Minister has given his commitment that there will be no changes on the notice of special Dewan Rakyat sitting scheduled on 11 April 2022 as distributed to the Members of Parliament.
“The Pakatan Harapan Presidency Council give our full commitment that all Members of Parliament from Pakatan Harapan will give our support to pass the Amendment of Federal Constitution,” said the four top leaders of PH.
Earlier, the Minister at Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law), Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar highlighted three main criteria which classify a Member of Parliament as hopping-party in the administration draft of the Federal Constitution (Amendment) on Anti-Party Hopping Bill.
First of all, an MP is considered to hop party when the MP involved won the election, then to quit the political party by becoming an independent representative or joining another political party.
Secondly, an MP who won the Parliament seat but is later fired by the party is also considered as hopping party. The party which sacks the MP will face the risk of losing its seat in an election which needs to be held again.
Thirdly, an independent MP who won the seat during an election but decides to join any political party after winning the seat is also considered as hopping party.
Meanwhile, the President of PH also said that they raised the issue on the sales of MySejahtera application to Ismail Sabri.
“The Opposition Chief also raised the MySejahtera ownership issue by a foreign country. This issue needs to be given a full explanation at the Dewan Rakyat,” said the statement. -MalaysiaGazette
