GORGE TOWN – Approximately 527 detainees from the Sungai Bakap immigration detention depot in Penang managed to escape the detention centre today.
MalaysiaGazette was told that they were rioting at 4.20 am this morning, before they managed to break out of the detention centre.
Efforts to track down and rearrest the Rohingya detainees are ongoing.
Meanwhile, a news conference on the incident will be made by the Penang Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain soon. -MalaysiaGazette
