KUALA LUMPUR – The government has agreed to give free toll and toll discounts to Keluarga Malaysia who wish to return to their hometown for the raya holidays in conjunction with the Endemic Transition Phase which started on 1 April and the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration on 3 May.

Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the measure is taken after negotiating with 30 highway concessionaires.

The free toll and discount will involve 30 expressways nationwide and motorists would enjoy up to RM77.11 million in discounts. The government and the concessionaires will jointly bear the costs of this benefit.

“Free toll will involve the expressways owned by Kumpulan PLUS Malaysia
Berhad (PLUS), which connects the North-South Expressway and Anih Berhad (ANIH) which connects the East Coast Expressway (LPT).

“It will begin at 12.00 midnight on 30 April (Saturday) until 11.59 pm on 1 May 2022 (Sunday) to all vehicle classes,” he said in a statement today.

Ismail Sabri added, unlike the previous years, the free toll for both North-South Expressway and LPT will also be given on 7 May 2022 (Saturday) until 11.59 pm on 8 May 2022 (Sunday) for their return journey to all vehicle classes.

Meanwhile, toll discount between 30% to 50% will be given to all other expressways on the same date and time to all vehicle classes.

“It is hoped that with these free toll and discount, the Aidilfitri celebration will be merrier this year with your loved ones.

“The government’s decision has factored in the pandemic impact to the source of income of the majority of Keluarga Malaysia earlier and reduce the burdens of the motorists, especially the lower income group.

“At the same time, I hope that we, as Keluarga Malaysia, can tolerate and always be patient with the presence of millions of vehicles on the expressways throughout the festive season. Drive safely and be careful on the road,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
