PUTRAJAYA – The Ministry of Health (MOH) projected that the Covid-19 cases in the country will increase in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration this week.

According to the Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the increment however, would only involve patients under Category 1 and 2 only.

“The cases which increase are mostly from Category 1 and 2. We have been observing the Covid-19 trend for the past two months, 99.5 percent are in category 1 and 2.

“The ICU admission and cases requiring respiratory supposed is reducing. The number of deaths also reduced,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham added, the projection is targeted after the government reopened its international borders in April.

“At the moment, after we reopened our borders in April, we expected our cases to rise but the cases dropped.

“This shows the herd immunity from the vaccine and those infected have recovered and they have the original immunity which helps us curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country,” he added.

Earlier today, the MOH reported that Malaysia recorded below 2,000 Covid-19 cases after it recorded 1,503 positive cases yesterday (1May).

The last time the country recorded daily cases below 2,000 was on 14 April last year.

The development witnessed Malaysia continued to record a decreasing infection trend after recording 2,123 cases on Saturday (39 April), Friday (2,585 cases) Thursday (2,944 cases) and Wednesday (3,481 cases). -MalaysiaGazette
