PETALING JAYA – Celebrity and host, Ahmad Awaluddin Ashaari pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate Court today to committing mischief by breaking a security boom gate near the guardhouse of a gated residential area in Sunway Damansara on 16 April.

The accused who is fondly known as Awal Ashaari, 41, recorded the plea before Magistrate Zhafran Rahim Hamzah.

According to the charge paper, the accused, on 16 April 2022 at about 11.30 am committed mischief by breaking the boom gate belonging to the management of Challis Damansara, Jalan PJU 3/30 and incurred an estimated RM600 in losses.

The case was framed under Section 427 of the Penal Code which carries the jail sentence of up to five years or fine or both.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamed Wafi Husain offered RM5,000 bail with a surety.

However, Awal’s defence counsel, Datuk M. Reza Hassan pleaded the court to reduce the bail to RM3,000 as the accused does not have a permanent income and he is also the sole bread winner for this family.

After listening to the arguments, Magistrate Zhafran Rahim allowed bail at RM2,000 with one surety.
