KUALA LUMPUR – The urine test conducted on a senior citizen taxi driver who drove against traffic came negative for drug abuse.

The Serdang District Police Chief, ACP A. Anbalagan said that the police had started its investigation into the case after an 11-second video clip went viral in the social media.

According to him, the 70-year-old taxi driver was driving dangerously at the traffic light junction of Jalan Putra Permai Seri Kembangan while he was chauffeuring three passengers.

“Preliminary investigation found that the taxi driver picked up the passengers from a condominium in front of Taman Equine AEON Mall and they were heading towards the Maybank at Taman Equine.

“Upon reaching the scene of the incident, the taxi driver drove into the opposite route to avoid making a u-turn at the Persiarang Pinggiran Putra 2 Roundabout,” he said in a statement today.

Anbalagan said, the taxi driver drove contra traffic for about 40 metres and turned right at the traffic light junction towards Maybank at Taman Equine.

He added, further investigation is ongoing to understand why the driver drove against the traffic. The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving. -MalaysiaGazette
