SHAH ALAM – An Assistant Medical Officer and two health assistants have been remanded for five days beginning today to assist into the investigation of instigating and receiving bribery between RM1,000 to RM4,000 each for the management of corpse.

The remand order until 4 June was issued by Magistrate Muhammad Syafiq Sulaman after approving the application from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today.

The four individuals who comprised of an assistant medical officer and health assistants aged between 35 and 41 years-old were arrested at the Selangor MACC Office yesterday after giving their statements on the case at around 6.00 pm.

However, only three suspects were brought to the court for remand order today.

Meanwhile, a 41-years-old suspect was released on MACC bail due to health factors.

According to a source, all male suspects who are serving at one of the hospitals in Selangor were believed to have instigated and accepted bribery for each corpse management from certain individuals as a reward for getting the corpse management jobs from 2018 until 2021.

The Selangor MACC Director Datuk Alias Salim who verified the arrest said that the case is investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

On 27 May, two health assistants aged 40 and 42 years old were arrested by the MACC to assist in the investigation involving the same case. -MalaysiaGazette
