KUALA LUMPUR – Rumours fly again about who would be leading the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) after Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador is said would be ending his contract as the Inspector-General (IGP) of Police this May.
A source told MalaysiaGazette that the Deputy IGP, Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani is highly rumoured to fill the IGP post as he is among the most senior and experienced person in PDRM.
Meanwhile, the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) Director, Datuk Zamri Yahya is rumoured to be the candidate to replace Acryl Sani.
According to the source, the position of IGP and Deputy IGP are Special Positions under Article 140 (4) and (5) of the Federal Constitution and their appointments would require the consent from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
It is understood that Abdul Hamid had started packing his things in the office although he is still carrying out his duty as the IGP.
He will also be meeting Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin this Thursday.
“Besides the two main positions, several senior officers in the team would also be leaving the team soon.
“Many names have been nominated but the selection of the sensitive post would be determined by the government,” he said.
MalaysiaGazette was told that the Bukit Aman Director of Criminal Investigation Department, Datuk Huzir Mohamed would be retiring, meanwhile, the Bukit Aman Special Branch Director, Datuk Mohamed Farid Abu Hassan will be ending his contract soon.
Elaborating further, the source said that it is not impossible for the Johor Police Chief, Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay to fill senior positions at the Bukit Aman Police Headquarters as he is a credible person in carrying out his duties.
Abdul Hamid was appointed as the IGP replacing Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun who retired on 4 May 2019.
Acry Sani took over the position from the then Deputy Inspector-General of Police from Datuk Mazlan Mansor on 14 August. –MalaysiaGazette
