Husband, wife arrested for abusing maid with hot iron, water

BUKIT MERTAJAM – A Cambodian domestic helper was discovered with various injuries, including being scalded by hot iron believed to be abused by her employers.

The atrocious act of the husband and wife was exposed after the victim who is in her 30’s was rescued by the police during a raid in a house at Jalan Perpaduan, Kampung Baru yesterday.

The raid at 9.30 pm last night that was led by Inspector Mohd Airedzuan Arifin from the Gambling / Vice / Secret Societies Prevention Division (D7) of the Seberang Perai Tengah District Police Headquarters found the victim shaking in fear, besides sleeping on the floor.

The Seberang Perai Tengah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shafee Abd Samad said the police acted on a public tip and raided the house before arresting the couple who are in their 50’s and 60’s.

Physical examination on the victim found several new and old wounds. She was also sleeping on the floor in a room.

“There were burns marks on her arms, injuries on her face, scratches on her body and legs and old suture scars.

“Besides that, the victim alleged that she was abused by the wife of her employer. She was hitting, being poured with hot water and pinched,” she said today.

MalaysiaGazette was also told that the victim was also abused with hot iron as the wound was found on her arm.

Further investigation found that the victim has worked for two years as a domestic helper and she is managed by the child of the suspect.

The couple took care of their grandchild at the house and they have retired.

“The victim was rushed to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for further treatment,” said Shafee.

The case is investigated under Section 13 and 44 of ATIPSOM 2005. –MalaysiaGazette
