GEORGE TOWN – The Secretary-General of DAP, Lim Guan Eng emphasized that the party will be bringing the party hopping issue to the court, although it is not contained in the Federal Constitution.
According to him, the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government should not defend the action of such people’s representatives if they alleged that they are an administration that upholds clean principles.
“As a Muslim, apostasy is not allowed and why is party hopping allowed in politics? We will refer the party hopping case to the court,” he said during a news conference at Wisma DAP in Penang today.
Commenting on the issue, Guan Eng said that the statement by the Secretary-General of PAS, Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan had clearly abused the principles of his previous party leaders.
“Takiyuddin’s statement is inappropriate and had clearly abused the political principles defended by PAS leaders such as Allahyarham Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat,” he said.
Yesterday, local media reported that the action of party hopping by the Members of Parliament (MPs) and the State Assembly Memers (ADUN) cannot be stopped as the action does not contradict to the Federal Constitution.
Citing examples from Penang, which implements the Anti-Party Hopping Act, Takiyuddin, who is also the Minister at Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) said that the state government needs to amend their Constitution.
“The Anti-Party Hopping Act in Penang should be blocked as the Federal Constitution needs to be implemented first.
“The act is subjected to the court order earlier, which decided that any law regarding party hopping is contradicting to the Federal Constitution and is not valid,” said Takiyuddin. –MalaysiaGazette
