2 arrested for ramming into policeman

KUALA LUMPUR – A policeman making an inspection on a suspicious vehicle was injured after the driver tried to escape by running over the policeman’s motorcycle and the policeman last night.

The policeman who was in front of the car had to hang onto the moving vehicle for approximately 150 metres before the driver managed to escape.

The Kajang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaid Hassan said that early investigation found that the 10.30 pm incident happened when a team of policemen from the Bandar Baru Bangi Police Station were making a Crime Prevention Patrol saw the vehicle in a suspicious manner.

He added, the car was parked at the parking lot of fast food restaurant, McDonald’s at Section 9, Bandar Baru Bangi with its engine turned on.

“The policeman approached the car and tried to inspect it by shining a torchlight into it and knocked on the window of the car where he found a man and a woman in it,” he said in a statement today.

According to Mohd Zaid, upon realising the presence of the policeman and he was instructed to get out from his car, the man tried to run away by ramming into the policeman’s motorcycle and also the policeman in front of him.

“The policeman involved tried everything he could to stop the car, however, the suspect continued to drive and escape towards Persiaran Jaya Bandar Baru Bangi,” he added.

Mohd Zaid said that the policeman suffered light injuries and the motorcycle he rode was damaged.

Although the suspect managed to escape, the policeman had identified his car registration number.

He added, based on the registration information of the car, the couple was arrested by the police from the Kajang District Police Headquarters.

He said, the police had requested a remand order against the two individuals at the Bandar Baru Bangi Court this morning for further investigation.

The case is investigated under Section 186/307/332 of the Penal Code, he said.
