SHAH ALAM – Three academic professors from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) have been fined RM2,000 each for violating the standard operating procedures (SOP) by holding Hari Raya feast at the students dormitory recently.
They include the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) of Student Affairs and Alumni and the DVC of Academic and International, said the Selangor Police Chief, Commissioner Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed.
“We have completed the investigation and presented the paper to the Deputy Public Prosecutor. We received the decision of a RM2,000 fine being issued on them.
“Meanwhile, the organiser of the programme was also being issued the RM10,000 compound,” he said.
In a statement on 16 May, the Acting Serdang District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Rosdi Daud said that the police had opened an investigation on the allegation that the Director-General of Higher Education had violated the standard operating procedures (SOP) by holding a hari raya celebration.
The programme was held at the 13th Residential College of UPM on 13 May in conjunction with the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, involving the presence of students and management of UPM.
According to Mohd Rosdi, UPM distributed some hari raya treats and held a hari raya feast for the students who chose to stay in the campus during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri. –MalaysiaGazette
