KUALA LUMPUR – The family members of Wong Chee Foong, one of the victim involved in the LRT crash has sent a Legal Notice of Demand to Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana), demanding RM1.8 million in compensation to the victim.

According to a statement, the family of the victim had referred to the media statement by Prasarana where the largest public transport operator in Malaysia said that it would give a RM1,000 aid to each victim, medical expenses and compensate for the loss of income.

However, according to the family members of Chee Fong, the RM1,000 compensation announced by Prasarana is not an amount that would be able to compensate the victim due to the huge damages he sustained.

In addition, it is disappointing that until today, there is no proper response or approach by Prasarana in liaising with the victim’s family.

Therefore, this morning, the victim’s family through lawyer, Jazzmine Khoo of Messrs Jazzmine Khoo & Associates  have sent a Legal Notice to demand RM1.8 million in compensation consist of medical expenses, physical damage, mental and emotional stress, trauma, loss of income, special and general damages and for the negligence caused.

According to a statement released, Chee Foong, 52, is a father of four who sustained serious head, face and spinal injuries in the crash and is currently undergoing multiple surgeries and treatments at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Chee Foong is a chef at a five-star hotel in the city.

He has four children aged between 3 and 15 years-old and is the sole bread winner for his family.

“On May 24, the unfortunate day of the accident, the victim was returning home from work whereby he boarded the train from KLCC station and was supposed to exit at Masjid Jamek station for train interchange to Cheras. He is still in the ICU, unconscious,” said the statement.

The family of the victim also hope that Prasarana can respond to the letter and would come forward for an amicable and more justified settlement proposal from them soon. –MalaysiaGazette
