KUALA LUMPUR – Only 12 categories in the manufacturing sector are allowed to operate during the Full Movement Control Order (FMCO) or total lockdown and breweries are not one of them, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Although the permission is granted to the manufacturers of food and beverages, however, they are only limited to essential items only.
“Therefore, breweries are not included in the category of essential item and the government has agreed to immediately shut down all breweries nationwide,” he said.
Yesterday, a letter issued by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) granting the approval for Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Berhad to operate during the total lockdown from 1 – 14 June 2021 went viral.
The letter validated that the company is registered in the MITI system, Covid-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS 3.0) under the food and beverages sector.
Following that, many people, including political party leaders raised questions demanding the Minister of MITI, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali to provide detailed explanation on the approval. – MalaysiaGazette
