KUALA LUMPUR – The Covid-19 outbreak in Site B and C in Sekinchan, Selangor has been reported to originate from a mahjong centre.
China Press reported that as of 29 May, 45 out of the 240 individuals who have been screened for Covid-19 were tested positive in the Site BC Cluster of Sekinchan in the Sabak Bernam district.
However, some of the close contacts were reported to be hiding in their home and refused to be tested.
The Sekinchan State Assemblyman, Ng Suee Lim said, the infection which originated from the mahjong centre had caused community infection with the oldest Covid-19 patient aged 80 years-old.
“Before this, there was an infection involving a family in Sekinchan on 9 May, however, it was fully controlled successfully.
“Now, there is a new cluster involving a mahjong centre where most of its visitors are residents from Kampung C,” he said.
According to him, the police had started its investigation on the mahjong centre which was operating during the Movement Control Order (MCO).
He said, although the Ministry of Health has named the cluster in Sekinchan as Site BC Sekinchan Cluster, the residents generally know that it originated from the mahjong centre.
“This is not a secret and here, we refer it as the Mahjong Cluster although it is not its official name,” he said. –MalaysiaGazette
