KUALA LUMPUR – Senior citizens are asked not to choose their Covid-19 vaccine, said the Coordinating Minister of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK), Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar.
According to him, there is no guarantee for them to receive their vaccine selection, despite having their appointment rescheduled.
Therefore, Khairy advised all senior citizens to take the scheduled vaccine.
“It (the appointment date) has been rescheduled but we need to know that although we have rescheduled your appointment, you cannot choose your vaccine, therefore, there is no guarantee that you will get Pfizer.
“Thus, we recommend that you take whatever vaccine that is given to you, as Sinovac has also been recognised by the World Health Organization (WHO). It has high protection against deaths, so, please do not be choosy,” he said when met at the vaccination centre (PPV) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) today, when ask to comment about some senior citizens who only wanted Pfizer and not Sinovac.
Meanwhile, Khairy shared his satisfaction on the process at PPV in KLCC today.
Nevertheless, he said that the number of wheelchairs at mega PPV needs to be increased as the priority of this phase is still on the senior citizens.
He added, the PPV is opened to 3,900 vaccine recipients today to kickstart the programme and it will be increased up to 10,000 individuals per day in the future.
“From the operation point of view, I can see that at KLCC, the process is organised. I also asked the recipients and there was not much problem. Perhaps we need to provide more wheelchairs as we are still giving the vaccines to the senior citizens. I am very satisfied with the arrangements at the KLCC PPV today,” he added.
“It is not full as we kick started with 3,900 recipients today. It is projected to be 10,000 here. Give it a week, we will look at the arrangements,” he said.
Besides KLCC, the Bukit Jalil National Stadium mega PPV also began its operation today.
Meanwhile in Selangor, three mega PPV in Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Puncak Alam, Setia City Convention Centre (SCCC) and the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre (MIECC) also began their operations today. –MalaysiaGazette
