TANGKAK – The decision for the transition into the second phase of the National Recovery Plan will be decided after the government evaluates the current Covid-19 situation in the country.
According to the Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the decision includes the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) 3.0 that is scheduled to end on 28 June.
“Although the government has decided on the date, rate, ICU beds, it has a threshold, however, we need to understand that the situation is ever changing and therefore, we make some adjustments.
“It will be decided in the National Security Council (MKN) meeting chaired by me and we will evaluate. Meanwhile, we maintain as it is,” he said in a news conference after visiting the vaccination centre at Bukit Gambir today when asked to comment about the government’s plan in moving to the next phase as the MCO 3.0 is scheduled to end in six days but the number of Covid-19 cases is still above 4,000 cases.
Muhyiddin said, although the government has determined a target date, duration, number of cases, vaccination process and the capacity of beds at the intensive care unit (ICU), however, it is subjected to changes and the government cannot decide on that yet.
Nevertheless, the government always monitor the current development through the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the whole existing system to ensure the intervention methods that could be used.
“For instance, the data is still high, we want it to drop below 4,000 cases. We have 4,743 cases today, it is not far from target.
“Nevertheless, we want to look at the intervention that the MOH and existing systems that we have to control the situation. However, that would not be sufficient without the participation of the people to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP). Not only the people but also the factories, community members and such,” he said.
At the same time, he also emphasized on the importance of speeding up the vaccination process as it can control the situation better and reduce the number of positive cases faster.
“We only have a few more days (before 28 June). Yes, if we can further reduce the rate, it means that we can follow the schedule as planned, thus, we will move on to the next phase.
“Therefore, we will not make the announcement now. We will usually give it a space of two to three days, if we want to extend, or move on to the next phase,” he said.
Earlier, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said that the average daily Covid-19 cases in Malaysia needs to be under 4,000 cases for seven days in a row for the country to move into the second phase of the National Recovery Plan.
Besides that, he also said that the ICU bed capacity also needs to go below 75 percent and 10 percent of the population has been vaccinated. –MalaysiaGazette
