KUALA LUMPUR – The Ministry of Human Resources (HRM) received many complaints from employees that they have been threatened by their employers to work as usual, failing which, they would be sacked.
Therefore, if the employees are still ordered by their employers to be present at their workplace during the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO), they may channel their complaints to the HRM through the Working for Workers (WFW) application.
Minister of Human Resources Datuk Seri M. Saravanan reminded all employers to obey the EMCO implemented on the sub-districts in Selangor and several localities in Kuala Lumpur beginning 3 July until 16 July 2021.
In his statement, he urged all employers to comply to the standard operating procedures (SOP), especially on the employee’s attendance at the office / workplace as determined by the government.
Other than those working in the essential services, no one is allowed to leave the EMCO area and they cannot work in the office / work place throughout the EMCO.
Thus, employers must obey this order and allow their employees to work from home (WFH).
Other than the WFH complaint category, the application also has 16 other categories of complaints involving labour issues. The HRM is always concerned about the complaints that it receives and appropriate actions will be taken by the ministry.
For the period between 23 May 2021 and 1 July 2021, the HRM through the Working For Workers (WSW) application, has received 1,878 complaints about employers not allowing their employees to WFH.
The state that recorded the highest amount of WFH complaints is Selangor (696 complaints), followed by FT Kuala Lumpur (505), Johor (196) and Penang (123).
59 compounds have been issued by the enforcement agencies under HRM such as the Peninsular Malaysia Department of Labour and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) from 1 June until 1 July on the non-compliance of employees attendance capacity.
He added, the HRM will enhance their enforcement activities through relevant acts during the EMCO in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur that will begin on 3 July 2021. Employers are urged to obey the EMCO SOP as a joint-measure in breaking the Covid-19 infection chain. –MalaysiaGazette
