KUALA LUMPUR – China has contributed 500,000 doses of vaccine to Malaysia as an effort to combat Covid-19.
The Coordinating Minister of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK), Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar said, the vaccine delivery from China is expected to arrive in mid July.
He said, Malaysia has received one million doses of Pfizer vaccine donated by the United States of America (USA) and another one million doses of AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine contributed by Japan.
“The procurement of 5.4 million doses of Pfizer vaccine by the government is expected to arrive this month.
“We will also be receiving the procurement of about 500,000 doses of AZ vaccine ordered by the government,” he said during the weekly news conference on the development of PICK along with the Minister of Health, Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba.
According to Khairy, the remaining 12 million doses of Sinovac vaccine will reach this month and it would be sufficient to vaccinate 18 percent of the population in Malaysia.
Malaysia received one million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine contributed by the US government this morning.
The contribution is part of the commitment of President Joe Biden’s administration to share 80 million Covid-19 doses around the globe. –MalaysiaGazette
