PETALING JAYA – The second dose vaccination rate in Selangor has almost reached 10 percent, said the Menteri Besar of Selangor, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
According to him, if we only factor in adults aged 18 years and above, Selangor has fulfilled the 10 percent population vaccination target.
With that calculation, he also said that Selangor should have been able to transition from Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan (PPN).
“If we measure at the rate of adults, for the first dose, Selangor has exceed 10 percent. We are at 27 percent now.
“We are nearing 10 percent for the second dose as we are between 8 and 9 percent now. That’s if we measure according to the rate of adults aged 18 years and above. That is our target to reach 80 percent.
“If we reach 10 percent, according to the transition phase, we can exit or slowly exit according to the phase,” he said in a news conference after visiting the Mentari Court which is put under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).
He was asked to comment on the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF)’s statement that Selangor recorded the lowest second Covid-19 dose rate.
Earlier, the Coordinating Minister of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK), Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar said that Selangor is projected to administer 130,000 doses per day in July and the vaccine has also been supplied to the state according to the appropriate rate.
Amirudin said, Selangor is the third state after Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak with the vaccination rate of over one million recipients receiving at least one dose of the vaccine.
For the record, the country will transition into Phase 2 of PPN after achieving three main indicators of below 4,000 average daily Covid-19 cases for seven days consecutively, a moderate level occupancy at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 10 percent of vaccination rate.
Meanwhile, Amirudin said that the state is able to achieve the 135,000 daily vaccination rate as targeted by Khairy.
As of last week, Selangor has increased the vaccination rate to 53,000 doses per day and with SELVAX, he believes that it can be increased to 135,000 per day, he said.
“I think that Khairy’s statement several weeks ago has been handled by both sides.
“Today, the Selangor State Secretary and Health Exco, Dr Siti Mariah will have meeting with CITF and we are looking at how to increase the SELVAC programme, the addition of PH Corp and additional doses for JKNS to speed up the vaccination process in Selangor.
“I think that the responsibility of the state government and Khairy is to identify and fulfil the void to overcome Covid-19 properly,” he said. –MalaysiaGazette
